USPA NEWS - The relay hunger strike by municipal workers entered its fifth consecutive day outside the Proddatur Municipal office on Friday, with protesters intensifying their demand for the reinstatement of employee B Venkateshwarlu. Leaders of the CITU warned of a full-scale strike if authorities fail to respond.

Issuing a strong warning, union leaders stated that if the issue remains unresolved, workers will go on strike.
Fifth Day of Relay Hunger Strike
The protest, held from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, saw participation from Putta Dastagiri, Bhaskar (Secretary), Joshua, and others, who expressed solidarity with the aggrieved employee.

The day’s hunger strike concluded when a municipal worker, Agamani, offered buttermilk to the participants.
Allegations of Unjust Removal
Speaking on the occasion, Korrapati Satyam, General Secretary of CITU, alleged that:

The employee was removed without any inquiry
No explanation was sought from him
The action was taken despite him acting under superior orders

He termed the move unjust and arbitrary.
No Response Despite Protests
Satyam pointed out that despite continuous protests for the past 10 days, there has been:

No response from municipal officials
No intervention from the district administration

This, he said, has further aggravated the workers’ concerns.
Warning of Strike and Boycott
Issuing a strong warning, union leaders stated that if the issue remains unresolved:

Workers will go on strike
Municipal duties will be boycotted
The agitation will be intensified further
Round-Table Meeting Announced
To broaden support, the union announced a round-table conference involving civil society organisations on Monday outside Municipal Office.

The meeting aims to mobilize wider backing for the workers’ demands.

The protest was attended by Shivaprasad, Ashok, Singarayya, Shiva Nagendra, B Vijayakumar, and several other members.
