MACRON KICKS OFF THE D-DAY COMMEMORATIONS IN PLUMELEC, BRITANY

USPA NEWS - President Emmanuel Macron has just started the first sequence of D-Day commemorations which this year marks the 80th anniversary of June 6, 1944, when France was liberated from the Nazis during WWII.
Many veterans have already died, eighty years later, but some centenarians are still alive, resistant and still strongly involved in the commemorations that take place each year, between the USA and the Normandy region, through which, 73,000 American soldiers liberated France.
President Macron began this morning with his arrival in Morbihan, in Brittany, in Plumelec where he is going and participating in the ceremony of tribute to the Breton resistance fighters at the SAS (the resistance fighters) memorial. Achille Muller, one of the veterans of the last paratroopers, will also deliver (an exception to the usual protocol) a short 2-minute speech entitled “the ghosts of my youth” in homage to his brothers in arms who died in combat, there is already eighty years old. “Here fell the first soldier of the Landings, a French soldier,” said Head of State Macron in the preamble to his speech.

ARRIVAL OF PRESIDENT MACRON IN PLUMELEC, BRITANY AT NOON

President Macron, as head of the Armed Forces, arrived at 11:53 a.m. at Plumelec in Morbihan (Brittany) and took part in the ceremony paying tribute to the Breton resistance fighters at the SAS memorial.

President Emmanuel Macron and his wife were then treated to another lovely little performance from a group of schoolgirls singing "Douce France", one of the most patriotic songs, by Charles Trenet.
